Beyond The Signs Recap
This is a seven week series that started with the miracle of (1) turning the water into wine; followed by the (2) healing of the nobleman’s son over a distance; (3) the healing of of the paralytic by the pool of Bethesda; (4) the feeding of the 5,000; (5) Jesus walking on water; (6) the healing of the blind man; and now (7) the raising of Lazarus from the dead.
Each miracle sheds some light and gives proof that Jesus is indeed the Son of God, the Savior of the World. Different facets of the power of Jesus were highlighted in every miracle. In week 1 he is Lord over time; week 2 Lord over distance; week 3 Lord of the Sabbath; week 4 Bread of Life; week 5 Lord over the forces of nature; week 6 Light of the World; week 7 Lord over Death, Resurrection and the Light. In all these, Jesus transcends beyond human limitations. Meaning, these are the things that we can’t go beyond. These are our limitations. These are the boundaries of our creatureliness. The seven signs show us that Jesus is not bound to these things. He is master over them.
The purpose for writing these miracles is stated at the beginning of the gospel:
John 1:6-7 (ESV) There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.
John 20:30-31 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
In conclusion, we are exactly who Jesus says we are: in Him, we are ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, made whole, and made new. Raised up unto salvation and Christlikeness.
